A small studio that builds what it draws
Founded in 2013, still deliberately small: eleven designers, one workshop, and site crews we have kept for years.
Started at a kitchen table in Ampang
Amber Loft Studio began in 2013 when Adeline Foo, then an architect at a large KL firm, renovated her aunt's terrace house on evenings and weekends. The house worked so well that three neighbours asked for the same — and the studio has grown one referral at a time since.
We stayed small on purpose. Eleven designers means the person who sketches your home is in the room at every review. Our own joinery workshop in Sungai Buloh means the gap between drawing and cabinet is a corridor, not a subcontract.
Four working principles
The price is the price
Fixed-price contracts, itemised line by line. A variation order needs your signature before a single tile moves.
Design for year fifteen
Trends date. Proportion, light and storage do not. We would rather you love the house quietly for a decade than photograph it loudly for a month.
Build what we draw
Our workshop and site crews answer to the same roof as our designers. When something is hard to build, we find out at the sketch, not on your floor.
Tell the truth early
If a budget cannot buy a brief, we say so at the first meeting. An honest no costs one conversation; a dishonest yes costs a year.
Led by practitioners, not account managers
Adeline Foo — Creative Director. Architect by training (UM, 2007), Adeline leads every concept review personally and still draws by hand first. Her work has been shortlisted in regional design awards and published in Malaysian and Singaporean design press.
Marcus Leong — Head of Projects. Fifteen years running high-rise and landed sites across the Klang Valley. Marcus writes the weekly report you receive and answers for every date on it.
Nurul Hazwani — Head of Interiors. Leads material research and joinery detailing, and keeps our library of tropical-tested finishes ruthlessly current.
